Keya
Choosing a drive motor for an AGV is not simply about motor power.
The real challenge is making sure the motor can deliver enough starting torque, traction, speed control and overload capability while working within the vehicle's limited battery voltage and installation space.
Keya provides low-voltage DC servo motor solutions for AGV and AMR drive systems, with flexible options for encoders, brakes and gearboxes.
Designed for AGV manufacturers, mobile robot integrators and automation engineers who need reliable motion performance—not just a motor with a suitable wattage.

AGV and AMR manufacturers often face the same motor selection challenges:

The motor may have enough rated power, but the AGV struggles when starting with a heavy payload or climbing a ramp.
High acceleration, frequent start-stop cycles and changing loads can place much higher demands on the drive motor than continuous operation.
Many mobile robots operate from low-voltage DC battery systems. The motor and controller must work efficiently within the available DC voltage.
AGV chassis space is often restricted. A larger motor is not always the best solution if it creates mechanical integration problems.

Incorrect speed, torque or gear ratio selection can reduce traction performance and increase energy consumption.
The drive motor needs to work with the vehicle controller, encoder feedback, braking system and motion-control architecture.
The right AGV drive motor should be selected according to the complete vehicle system—not motor power alone.
The motor is designed to provide the torque required for AGV acceleration, traction and load movement.
For applications with high starting loads, slopes or frequent acceleration and deceleration, motor torque and gearbox selection are critical.
Keya DC servo motors are designed for low-voltage DC applications, making them suitable for battery-powered mobile equipment.
Typical applications include:
AGV
AMR
Autonomous mobile robots
Mobile platforms
Warehouse transportation vehicles
Logistics robots
Agricultural mobile robots
With encoder feedback, the motor can provide real-time speed and position information to the control system.
This helps improve:
Speed control
Position accuracy
Synchronization
Low-speed operation
Motion stability
Different AGV projects have different mechanical and electrical requirements.
Keya can provide motor configurations with:
Encoder
Electromagnetic brake
Gearbox
Different voltage options
Different power ratings
Different speed ranges
Customized shaft and mounting configurations
The motor is not an isolated component.
Keya focuses on providing motor solutions that can be integrated with the complete AGV drive system, including motor controllers, gearboxes, encoders and vehicle control systems.
A complete AGV traction system may include:
DC Servo Motor → Gearbox → Motor Drive Controller

The configuration can be selected according to the AGV's:
Total vehicle weight
Maximum payload
Wheel diameter
Required travel speed
Acceleration
Operating slope
Duty cycle
Battery voltage
Installation space
This allows the motor and transmission system to be matched to the actual vehicle requirements.

Selecting an AGV motor based only on rated power can lead to poor performance.
The correct motor should be selected according to the complete vehicle operating conditions.
Calculate the total weight of the AGV, including the payload.
The motor speed must be matched with the wheel diameter and gearbox ratio to achieve the required vehicle speed.
Starting torque can be significantly higher than the torque required during steady-state travel.
Wheel diameter directly affects the required motor torque and vehicle travel speed.
If the AGV operates on ramps, additional traction torque is required.
Frequent acceleration, deceleration, reversing and start-stop operation can significantly affect the motor's thermal load.
The motor voltage should match the AGV's battery and electrical architecture.
The gearbox should provide the required balance between motor speed, wheel torque and vehicle speed.
